Weatherproofing and securing the house are really important, especially as we want to be able to store some materials and equipment on-site and be able to work inside the house during the coder months. So getting the main house fully double glazed was a priority for us.
With Nigel’s help we got several quotations for the double glazing and eventually picked one company – it wasn’t the most expensive or the cheapest but it turned out to be a good choice!
We decided on plain white uPVC, with flyscreens in all the opening windows. And we put in double glazed units where there were traditional “air spaces” in the loft too – just to be consistent, make it look good and also enable us to perhaps use those spaces for storage without having to worry about any visitors!
Anyway, they did a great job – only had to come back once to replace some handles and locks. There’s a couple of units not yet installed (the new big window on the ground floor where the existing entrance door is and a new window in the master bathroom – but the hole hasn’t been cut out of the wall yet LOL) but we will get there.
We are hoping to install big (4m wide) bi-fold doors in the barn and then hopefully be able to use the same company for the kitchen area as well.
